I am fascinated by the chemistry of biological organisms and the application of this chemistry in human diseases. My laboratory uses comprehensive organic structure analysis, especially NMR methods to elucidate the chemical structure of biologically active compounds we isolate from nature.
Before I joined the faculty of California State University, Dominguez Hills in July 2015, I performed post-doctoral research in the laboratory of Phillip Crews at the University of California, Santa Cruz. I joined the Crews lab shortly after graduating with my Ph.D. in medicinal chemistry from The Ohio State University in 2013, where I studied under A. Douglas Kinghorn. Before Ph.D. work I graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry.
Outside of labwork I serve as Vice President of the Black Faculty and Staff Association (BFSA) at CalState Dominguez Hills. In my freetime I play alto saxophone and off-road bike around the Los Angeles area.
